Month Of October

The West Harrison Fire Department had a very busy month running 29 calls, Attending the Harrison Police Department's annual open house, standing by for annual Columbus day fireworks and running fire prevention at the local schools in town. Without the help of our dedicated members we couldn't have had such a successful month under the busy circumstances. As the winter/fall time is approaching we would like to give our residents some tips:

-As you change your clocks this upcoming weekend don't forget to also change your smoke alarm batteries
-Ensure you have Carbon Monoxide Alarms within 15ft of each sleeping area
-Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heat sources such as fire places, space heaters
-Have your chimney inspected and cleaned and when using a fire place put the ashes in tightly sealed metal container outside the residence
-Keep portable generators outside and away from windows or vents
-Never use your oven to heat your home
-Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed

By Following these tips you can ensure you will have a happy, safe and healthy winter/fall season. We would like to take this time to also send our condolences to the New York City Fire Department on losing one of their own this month Battalion Chief Michael J. Fahy and also to the New York State Troopers on losing one of their own Trooper Timothy Pratt. In the wake of these events we will be proudly flying the thin blue/red flag on our apparatus to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. May you never be forgotten and rest in eternal peace.
