On Wednesday October 12, the West Harrison Fire Department spent the morning at Preston Elementary school teaching the students fire prevention. Students were able to participate in the fire prevention trailer, got a tour of the apparatus and equipment we use and also had a guest appearance by sparky. With this week being fire prevention week the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has announced “fire won’t wait, plan your escape” as the theme for Fire Prevention Week, reinforcing the critical importance of developing a home escape plan with all members of the household and practicing it regularly. In addition, this October represents the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week, the nation’s longest-running public health observance on record.
