As many may know the West Harrison Fire Department recently took delivery of a 12ft inflatable boat with a 25HP motor on it. Last week on Thursday July 20th and Saturday July 22nd the West Harrison Fire Department hosted a two part water rescue class which included one night of powerpoint instruction and one day of hands on training. The powerpoint covered water rescue awareness and safety, rescue techniques, flood water rescue, boating operations, and emergency procedures while on a boat. On Saturday July 22nd members were able to put what they learned to the test with a full day of hands on training. Members rotated through multiple evolutions which Included shore based rescues, boat based rescues and techniques, and emergency procedures. The West Harrison Fire District encompasses multiple large bodies of water to include but not limited to silver lake, spring lake, forest lake and rye lake (the reservoir) and multiple streams, rivers and ponds. As we have recently seen this past summer flash flooding and water emergencies seems to be more of a common occurrence then usual and the West Harrison Fire Department is now properly trained in how to deal with these types of emergencies. The West Harrison Fire Department is committed to providing the highest level of public safety to the residents and visitors of this town and to our mutual aid partners and are consistently training to provide the highest level of protection. We would like to thank Kelbray Fire Services for providing this training, and our fire commissioners for making this all happen.
