October Proved to be a busy month for the West Harrison Fire Department. Starting with Columbus Day weekend the department participated in 3 different events beginning on Sunday October 8th with the open house at the Harrison Police Station where we were able to showcase our apparatus and teach fire prevention to those who attended. Later that night the department provided standby crews for the great to live in Harrison Firework show in silver lake. On Monday October 9th the department participated in the towns great to live in Harrison day parade as well.

The Department participated in 3 fire prevention details throughout the month of October as well. Starting off with Preston School on October 18th, and 23rd and a preschool in town on October 25th.

On Sunday October 15th the department was invited by our Ex-Chaplin Father Chris to attend a blue mass in Dobbs Ferry which honored first responders. This mass is an annual tradition to show gratitude for what first responders do on a daily basis. We would like to thank Father Chris for including us in that mass.

On Sunday October 22nd the department provided standby coverage along with the Purchase Fire Department for the annual Italian heritage festival in silver lake. With over 10,000 guests in attendance the day ran without incident and a great time was had by all.

On top of all the above listed events the department was able to acquire a vacant house set for demolition. The department utilized this house for training purposes every Tuesday night in order to sharpen our skill set in a variety of topics to include truck company operations, engine company operations, and firefighter survival. Thank you to the owner of the house for donating it , truly was a great training opportunity for all.

Last but not least the department ran 27 calls for service in the month of October. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers without you guys and girls none of this would be possible.
